SUMMARY

When a record is deleted from a dBASE file, it is not removed from the file, but rather flagged not to be used. If you have quite a large file, removing all of the deleted records decreases the size of the file.

To remove the deleted records from a file, do the following:

  1. Open the file with the records to be deleted.

  2. Choose File Save Results As.

  3. Choose a new name for the file and choose the same format.

  4. Choose OK.

Finish the process from Windows or DOS by deleting the file opened in Step 1 and renaming the file created in Step 3.

Make sure that the original .DBF file is open and that the undeleted records are showing when you save the results.
