How to Save Dialog Box Information Outside of a Macro Sheet

SUMMARY

The Dialog Editor in Microsoft Excel allows you to create custom dialog boxes. However, there is no option under the File menu that allows you to save a box that is in the process of being constructed. To save either an incomplete box or a template that you are creating, save the information to a file from the Clipboard.

The following steps allow you to save your dialog box information:

  1. Enter the Dialog Editor.

  2. Start construction of the dialog box.

  3. From the Edit menu, choose Select Dialog.

  4. From the Edit menu, choose Copy.

  5. Choose Exit from the File menu to close the Dialog Editor. Save changes to the Clipboard when prompted to do so.

  6. Run the Clipboard by pressing ALT+SPACEBAR simultaneously, choosing Run, choosing Clipboard, and choosing OK.

  7. From the File menu, choose Save As.

  8. Enter any valid filename and choose OK.

  9. The file will be saved as DEFAULT.CLP if a filename is not specified.

To retrieve the dialog information for future use:

  1. Run the Clipboard.

  2. From the File menu, choose Open.

  3. Enter the path and filename for your dialog information.

  4. Run the Dialog Editor.

  5. From the Edit menu, choose Paste.
