3270 Emulator Not Included with Windows NT

Article ID: Q103371

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows NT operating system version 3.1
  • Microsoft Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1

Windows NT does not include a 3270 emulation program, although Appendix A of both the Microsoft Windows NT "System Guide" and the Windows NT Advanced Server "System Guide" reference a 3270 emulation program.

On page 505 of the Windows NT "System Guide" and page 609 of the Windows NT Advanced Server "System Guide," under DLC protocol information, it states the following:

To connect to and communicate with a mainframe computer, DLC
protocol must be installed and running. You use a terminal
emulator, such as the 3270 Emulator in the Accessories Group, to
   access a mainframe computer.

This is incorrect; a 3270 emulation program is not included with Windows NT version 3.1.
