SUMMARY

When opening a file in Lotus that was created in Excel, you may receive the error message "Not a valid Lotus file." This usually indicates that the Excel file was not converted properly. Most likely you saved the file by typing a filename with the Lotus extension rather than going to the File menu, choosing Save As, selecting Options, and selecting the appropriate file format.

To convert an Excel file to another file format, do the following:

  1. From the File menu, choose Save As.

  2. Select Options.

  3. Select the appropriate file format and press OK.

Excel will automatically add the appropriate file format extension as it saves the file.
