Backgroup Color of Excel 5.0 Changes Intermittently

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows NT Workstation versions 3.5 and 3.51
  • Microsoft Windows NT Server versions 3.5 and 3.51
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows versions 5.0, 5.0c

SYMPTOMS

If you set your video configuration to VGA and 16 colors, the background color of an Excel spreadsheet changes intermittently when you scroll up or down.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, do one of the following:

  • change the video configuration to a greater color depth such as 246- color mode.

    -or-

  • Upgrade to Excel for Windows 95, version 7.0.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version 3.5 and 3.51. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
