SYMPTOMS

When you access Microsoft Query from Microsoft Excel by clicking the Get External Data command on the Data menu, you may receive the following error message:

Can't open cue cards without a file name.
Rerun setup to provide the cue cards file name.

CAUSE

This error may occur if you computer is low on memory or system resources. It may also occur if the Temp folder (directory) is not completely empty.

RESOLUTION

The first step in resolving this issue is to check the Temp folder for any old temporary (*.tmp) files. Follow these steps to check the Temp folder:

1. Exit Windows.

2. At the command prompt, type SET and press ENTER. Make a note of the

path specified by the TEMP= statement.

3. Type the following command to change to the Temp folder:

      CD <TEMP Path>

where <TEMP Path> is the path specified by the Temp value you noted
   in Step 2.

4. If any files [temporary (*.tmp) or otherwise] exist in the Temp
folder, delete them or move them to another folder.

An additional step you can use to resolve this problem is to perform a "clean boot" of the system.
