Pattern Redraw Problem with Excel and 8514 Driver

SUMMARY

There is a problem with pattern redrawing with Microsoft Excel 3.0 when the 8514 video driver is installed in Windows. The problem occurs when an area of an Excel spreadsheet is formatted in some pattern and then scrolled off the screen using the arrow keys or by using the mouse to click the scroll bar arrows (scrolling the pattern off the screen line by line). After the pattern has been scrolled off and scrolled back onto the screen, it will no longer be smooth or uniform. However, if you use the PGUP or PGDN key, or click the scroll bar itself with the mouse, to move the sheet a page at a time, and then use the same procedure to return to the patterned area, the pattern will be restored to its original condition.

Steps to Reproduce Problem

1. Select any area on a spreadsheet.

2. From the Format menu, choose Patterns.

3. Choose the fifth pattern down in the list box.

4. Choose OK.

5. Note that the pattern is smooth and uniform.

6. Hold down your DOWN ARROW key and scroll the patterned area off of the screen.

7. Hold down your UP ARROW key to scroll the pattern back onto the screen.
