Print Preview Differs from Screen Display in Excel

SUMMARY

When you use the Hewlett-Packard (HP) LaserJet II driver version 3.4 and the Format/Alignment Wrap Text feature, the text displayed on the screen will not necessarily match the text displayed during Print Preview. This is true even when using printer fonts to format the text. The text may look correct on the screen, but it will be "chopped off" in Print Preview. This seems to occur regardless of the font used. If the cell is adjusted to fit the text in the Print Preview screen, it will no longer fit correctly on the worksheet.

Steps to Reproduce Problem

  1. Load the LaserJet II driver.

  2. From the Format menu, choose Font.

  3. Check Printer Fonts.

  4. Write text to a cell.

  5. From the Format menu, Choose Alignment and check Wrap Text.

  6. Observe that the text fits within the cell.

  7. From the File menu, choose Print Preview. The text will no longer fit within the borders of the cell.

Microsoft is researching this problem and will post new information here as it becomes available.
