MEMORY.DMP File Not Created on Compaq DeskPro XL 566

SYMPTOMS

When you use an integrated on-board PCI SCSI-2 controller on a Compaq DeskPro XL 566 computer, the system may fail. The following error message appears:

Unable to initialize miniport driver
After you restart the computer, a crash memory dump file (MEMORY.DMP) is not created.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version 3.5. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.


MORE INFORMATION

To force the creation of a crash memory dump file:

  1. Run Control Panel, choose System, and choose Recovery.


  2. Select both the Automatically Reboot and Write Debugging Information To.


By default, the crash memory dump file is <%systemroot%>\MEMORY.DMP.
