Monochrome Video in Visual Basic 3.0 or Lotus Notes Desktop

Last reviewed: May 8, 1997
Article ID: Q102398

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows NT operating system, version 3.1
  • Microsoft Windows NT Advanced Server, version 3.1

SYMPTOMS

When using a display driver that provides 64K color (16 bits per pixel), Visual Basic version 3.0 and Lotus Notes Desktop both act as running in a monochrome environment.

CAUSE

The manner in which these applications detect the color mode results in incorrectly assuming that only monochrome color is available.

RESOLUTION

Use a color mode other than 64K. 24-bit color does not exhibit this problem.
