  • Microsoft Windows NT operating system version 3.1
  • Microsoft Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1

SYMPTOMS

When you run ACLCONV on a large volume with many directories (15,000 or more) ACLCONV may fail and you may need to restart Windows NT. ACLCONV uses the paging file to store access control list (ACL) information. One of its processes does not release some of this memory for each ACL entry. With a very large number of directory and file entries, this problem can quickly fill up your paging file.

The following error message may appear:

   Error reading data file

STATUS

This problem was corrected in the latest U.S. Service Pack for Windows NT and Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1.
