Summary:

When you choose dBASE II or IV file format in Microsoft Q+E 3.0 for Windows, Q+E saves the file in dBASE III format.

Q+E for OS/2 correctly saves dBASE II files; however, dBASE IV files are saved in dBASE III format.

More Info:

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. Open a file in Q+E for Windows

  2. Save that file as a dBASE file. Choose Options and select either dBASE II or IV format.

  3. Open the new dBASE file in Excel. In the upper left corner of the formula bar, Excel displays DBF 3: ## %.

  4. Save the same file in Excel as a DBF 4 file. Close it and reopen it.

  5. The file reads into Excel as a dBASE IV file.
