NetFlex-II NIC Does Not Bind When Digiboard PCIMAC Installed

SYMPTOMS

After you install a Digiboard PCIMAC on a Compaq Prosignia VS computer with a built-in Netflex-II network interface card (NIC), the following is logged in the Event Viewer:

   Event ID: 7000
   Source: Service Control Manager
   Type: Error
   Description: The Compaq integrated Netflex-II ENET driver service
   failed to start due to the following error: A device attached to the
   system is not functioning.

   Event ID: 9006
   Source: Nbf
   Type: Error
   Description: Nbf could not find adapter \Device\pcntn311.

   Event ID: 9005
   Source: Nbf
   Type: Error
   Description: Nbf failed to bind to adapter \Device\pcntn311.

   Event ID: 2504
   Source: Server
   Type: Error
   Description: The server could not bind to the transport
   \Device\Nbf_pcntn311.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, disable the built-in NetFlex-II NIC and install another supported NIC.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version 3.1. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
