ACC: "No permissions for '<table name>'" Error Modifying Table

ID: Q92667

The information in this article applies to:

SUMMARY

Advanced: Requires expert coding, interoperability, and multiuser skills.

When you try to modify data in a table in Datasheet view, you may receive the following error message

No permissions for '<table name>'

even though you were able to open the table without receiving any error messages.

NOTE: This behavior no longer occurs in Microsoft Access for Windows 95.

MORE INFORMATION

This error message indicates that you have only Read Definitions (in Microsoft Access version 1.x) or Read Design (in Microsoft Access version 2.0) permissions on the table. Because you have permission to view the data by default, you do not receive an error message when you first open the table in Datasheet view.

When you try to open the table in Design view, you receive the following error message:

You don't have permission to modify '<table name>'. Open as read-only?

This message appears because you have no security permissions to open the table in Design view.
