Screen Unit Sizes in an Excel Dialog Box

SUMMARY

Microsoft Excel's Dialog Editor allows you to manually control the positioning and sizing of items in a custom dialog box. The X and Y coordinates used to specify positioning are measured in points. However, the height and width of an item are measured in screen units. These screen units may vary according to the default font used in the Dialog Editor.

MORE INFORMATION

The default font used in the Dialog Editor is Windows' system font. One horizontal screen unit is 1/8 of the width of one character in the system font. One vertical screen unit is 1/12 of the height of one character in the system font. The system font is Helv 8 (when using VGA resolution) by default. However, note that many third-party font packages change the system font.
