Running .REG File Updates No File Icons in File Manager

SYMPTOMS

When you run a file with the extension .REG to register a new file type in File Manager, File Manager does not update any file icons and it does not refresh its directory windows.

CAUSE

When new file types are registered in this manner, File Manager does not generate any notification messages.

WORKAROUND

There are two methods to work around this situation:

  • Close File Manager and reopen it.

    -or-

  • Choose Associate from the File menu to assign a file type to a file extension. File Manager updates its directory windows.
