Setting Multiple Row Heights and Column Widths with the Mouse

SUMMARY

In Microsoft Excel, you can adjust the row heights of several rows or the column widths of several columns at once with the mouse.

The following instructions describe the method for adjusting row heights. The technique works analogously for column widths.

  1. Select all of the rows you want to adjust (discontiguous ranges are allowed) by dragging across the numbers identifying the rows.


  2. Place your mouse pointer at the edge line separating the row identifier of any one of the rows that you have selected. The pointer splits at this intersection into a two-headed arrow. You are now in a position to adjust the row height of the row above the split arrow.


  3. Click and drag with the mouse to adjust the height of the above row; dragging up causes the row to assume a shorter row height, dragging down causes the row to assume a greater row height. When you release the mouse button, all the selected rows will assume the new height definition.
