Setup Recognizes Only the First Two Disks in the System

Last reviewed: May 8, 1997

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows NT operating system, version 3.1
  • Microsoft Windows NT Advanced Server, version 3.1

SYMPTOMS

If you have multiple disk controller drives, the text-mode portion of Setup sees the first two drives only. For example, an array controller with six physical disks can be configured to appear to the software as having three drives. Setup recognizes only the first two.

In another example, you may have a docking station equipped portable computer that has one drive in the portable and a second drive on a second IDE controller in the dock. Setup sees only the drives in the portable.

CAUSE

This problem is caused by a limitation of the BIOS.
