The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows NT operating system version 3.1
  • Microsoft Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1

SYMPTOMS

When you share a CD-ROM drive and connect to it from a Windows for Workgroups client and you run the DIR * command from a subdirectory of the CD-ROM, the directory listing does not include the double dot (..) entry that represents the parent directory.

This behavior does not affect functionality, but when you use this command in LAN Manager, MS-DOS, or Windows for Workgroups, the directory listing does include the entry for the parent directory.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT and Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
