Slow Access of MS-DOS-Based Applications with HP27247B NIC

SYMPTOMS

When you access MS-DOS-based database applications on a Novell NetWare 3.11 server through Client Service for NetWare, the response may be very slow and sometimes the access request may time-out.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when the Hewlett-Packard (HP) HP27247B network adapter card is installed.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, do the following:

  1. Make sure the 10BASE-T cable is at least an AT&T class 3 or higher.

  2. Replace the HP27247B network card with another network card listed in the Windows NT 3.1 Hardware Compatibility List.
