Spooler Service Slows Windows NT 4.0 Shutdown

SYMPTOMS

When you shut down your Windows NT 4.0-based computer, it may take several minutes to actually shut down.

CAUSE

The Spooler service is started and waiting for a response when you shut down.

RESOLUTION

Use the following steps to stop the Spooler service before shutting down:

  1. In Control Panel, double-click Services.

  2. Click the Spooler service, and then click Stop.

  3. Click Close.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Windows NT 4.0. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
