Translating Picture Charts Between Platforms

SUMMARY

Because of the different mechanisms for displaying graphics on different platforms, Excel picture charts created on one platform may not be displayed the same way on a different platform.

For example, if you create a picture chart in Excel for Windows by pasting a Windows metafile or BMP file from Paintbrush into a chart, that same file, when opened on a Macintosh, will display the series with double lines around blank markers indicating that the picture cannot be displayed. If you do not modify the markers, no graphic data will be lost and the file, when transferred to a DOS disk and opened again under Excel for Windows, will display correctly.

You can reset the markers to their default settings by choosing a chart type from the Gallery menu, or by selecting any one of the pictures and choosing Cut from the Edit menu.

This is not documented anywhere in the current Excel documentation.
