STOP Message 0xA when Lots of Data is Sent Over SNA Bridge

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows NT operating system version 3.1
  • Microsoft Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1

SYMPTOMS

Sending large amounts of data over an SNA Bridge causes this error:

   Trap 0x0000000A

CAUSE

This indicates network cards with mismatched speeds. For example, a 16-bit Ethernet card paired with a slower (8-bit) token ring 16/4 card, results causes a data overrun on the token ring card.

RESOLUTION

IBMTOK.SYS has been changed to handle this speed mismatch condition. A workaround is to use two of same speed network cards (32 bit or 16 bit).

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT and Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1. This problem has been corrected in the latest U.S. Service Pack for Windows NT and Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1.
