STOP Message: 0x0000001E in STREAMS.SYS

SYMPTOMS

A STOP message appears (0x1E in STREAMS.SYS).

CAUSE

The above STOP message is generated when a Windows NT computer is running two or more transports and is the backup Browse Master then it simultaneously receives a browse list request and a remote command from another computer to execute a NET USE /D disconnecting its IPC$ share.

The disconnect on IPC$ comes from NetLogon--if it thinks that there is a stale connection to the server, it silently does a NetUseDel with a lot of force to drop the Virtual Circuit.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT and Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1. This problem was corrected in the latest U.S. Service Pack for Windows NT and Windows NT Advanced Server.
