Unattached Text, Arrows Cannot Be Copied Between Excel Windows

ID: Q74275

SUMMARY

When copying the contents of one Microsoft Excel chart window into another chart window, everything except unattached text and arrows will be copied. Those objects are not part of the chart, but are part of the chart window. If you select an arrow or some unattached text, the Copy command under the Edit menu will be unavailable, so you cannot even copy them into the other chart window as individual objects.

Arrows and unattached text must be re-created in the target chart window.

MORE INFORMATION

Normally this is not a problem because if your goal is to create a new chart based on an existing chart, you simply need to save the old chart under a new filename. This preserves the old chart file and creates a new chart file that is identical until it is edited.

However, with the advent of PowerPoint for Windows, and Object Linking and Embedding (OLE), there is often a need to copy the contents of an existing chart window into a specific chart window that cannot be renamed. When copying the contents of an existing chart window into this OLE chart window, any arrows and unattached text must be re-created.
