Using Paradox Version 3.5 CSV Files with Excel

SUMMARY

Paradox version 3.5 is a relational database program that can export its files into CSV (text, comma separated values) format, which can then be opened in Microsoft Excel. In Excel versions 2.x, the CSV file format translates correctly. In Excel 3.0, an extra character appears at the end of the first column of data.

This extra character is an end of file character (EOF) that is shown as a straight line in the last cell of the first column. This can be deleted from the file by choosing Delete from the Edit menu. However, Paradox can also export to Lotus WK1 and dBASE III and IV formats, which Excel can also open. These formats do not produce the end of file character.
