Windows NT Backup May Not Restore All HPFS Extended Attributes

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows NT operating system version 3.1
  • Microsoft Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1

With OS/2 2.x installed on its own partition which is formatted as OS/2 2.x HPFS, when you are using the Windows NT Backup program to do a complete backup and restore of the OS/2 2.1 HPFS drive, some of the special desktop properties, such as shadows and links, which are stored in extended file attributes, are not restored.

Windows NT cannot read some of the OS/2 2.x HPFS extended attributes and therefore cannot backup or restore them using the Windows NT Backup utility.

OS/2 version 2.x is manufactured by IBM, a vendor independent of Microsoft; we make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding this products' performance or reliability.
