The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows Software Development Kit (SDK) for Windows versions 3.0 and 3.1

PARENT is a sample application in the Microsoft Software Library that demonstrates how to dynamically change the parent of a child window by using the SetParent function.

NOTE: This technique is very risky when applied to pop-up windows. Pop-up windows do not have a parent, instead they have an owner, which is a different relationship. Trying to change the parent of a pop-up window can cause the application or Windows to crash.

Download PARENT.EXE, a self-extracting file, from the Microsoft Software Library (MSL) on the following services:

  • Microsoft Download Service (MSDL)

          Dial (206) 936-6735 to connect to MSDL
          Download PARENT.EXE (size: 21190 bytes) 
    
  • Internet (anonymous FTP)

          ftp ftp.microsoft.com
          Change to the \SOFTLIB\MSLFILES directory
          Get PARENT.EXE (size: 21190 bytes)
