"Can’t Save File" After Changing Regional/Keyboard Setting

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

You get the following error message when trying to save a file in Word:

   Cannot save the file. '<path><filename>' is not a valid filename.

This error will occur when the following conditions are true:

CAUSE

The Windows 95 code page is not correctly set to Greek by the Windows 95 Regional Settings.

WORKAROUND

Method 1: Change the Keyboard Setting

Create the document using the Greek Keyboard setting, and then change the Keyboard setting to English before you save the document.

NOTE: Be sure you are typing English characters, otherwise you will get the error message if you type the file name using the Greek keyboard settings when saving the file.

Method 2: Use Microsoft Windows NT, version 4.0

When setting the Windows Regional Settings, click to select the "Set as system default locale" option located on the Regional Settings tab.
