SYMPTOMS

When pasting text into Word for Windows NT copied from another application in Windows 95, the following error message may result:

Not enough memory to complete this operation.

CAUSE

Word for Windows NT interacts with the Clipboard in different ways depending on whether the application that the original text was copied from is an OLE or non-OLE application.

When pasting text into Word from non-OLE applications, Word for Windows NT interacts with the Windows 95 Clipboard incorrectly and generates the insufficient memory error message.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word version 6.0 for Windows NT. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

WORKAROUND

Word for Windows NT can successfully paste text from an OLE application.

To workaround this problem, paste the text into the Windows 95 WordPad application. Then, copy the text from there back to the Clipboard. The text can now be pasted into Word for Windows NT.
