SYMPTOMS

You receive the following error message when running Word Setup:

   Setup Error 797
   Object 570
Your Setup files may be damaged. Try restarting the Setup Program.

CAUSE

This error message occurs if you are using Stacker, version 4.0 or earlier. The error also occurs if you are using any other hard disk utility that does not support long file names.

MORE INFORMATION

Windows 95 can be installed on systems that use Stacker 2.x, 3.x, or 4.x; however, versions earlier than 4.1 do not support long file names. The Setup program used by Word 7.0 and all Office for Windows 95 programs searches the system for long file name capability. If it is found, the installation continues. If not, an error message is generated.

RESOLUTION

Method 1: To install the Office for Windows 95 programs, upgrade to version

4.1 of Stacker, install Windows 95, and then install the program.

Method 2: If you need to use an earlier version of a hard disk utility,
          perform the following steps:

          a. Run Lfnbk.exe, which is a long file name (LFN) backup
utility available in the \\Admin\Apptools\Lfnback folder of
             the Windows 95 CD-ROM.

Lfnbk.exe removes your long file names and saves them to a
             data file.

             Read Lfnbk.txt for more information.

          b. Restart your computer and use the appropriate step below:

             - If you need to run an MS-DOS-based utility, press the F8
key when you see the "Starting Windows 95" message, and
then choose Command Prompt Only from the Startup menu.

               -or-

             - If you need to run a Windows-based utility, allow Windows
               95 to start normally.

          c. After you run the utility, restart your computer and run
Lfnbk.exe to restore your long file names.
