If you copy text formatted as 10 point from Microsoft Excel and paste it into a Word for Windows document, Word changes the 10-point text to the default point size if the default font size is other than 10 points. For example, if your default font in Word is Times New Roman, 12 point, all 10-point Microsoft Excel text changes to 12-point text when you paste it into a Word document. The typeface does not change; for example, Arial 10 pastes as Arial 12, and Courier 10 pastes as Courier 12.
Word does not change other point sizes, which means that 12-point fonts paste as 12 points, 8-point fonts past as 8 points, and so on.
This problem occurs only when you perform a paste operation. It does not occur if you embed or paste link the Excel data.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word for Windows, versions 1.x, 2.0, 2.0a, 2.0a-CD, 2.0b, 2.0c, 6.0. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
In Word, change the default font size to 10 points before you paste the Excel data. When the default font size is 10 points in Word, the problem does not occur. After you paste the Excel data, change your default font size back to the original setting.
