Bookmark Returns When Creating a New Glossary Entry

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Word for Windows, if you create a bookmark and then delete it, the bookmark is restored to the bookmark menu if you create a new glossary entry. The bookmark should be deleted permanently; but in this situation, it reappears in the Bookmark dialog box.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Word for Windows listed above. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

Steps to Reproduce Problem

 1. From the File menu, choose New, then choose the OK button.

 2. Type "abc" (without the quotation marks), and move the insertion
    point to the beginning of the line.

 3. From the Insert menu, choose Bookmark. Type "mark1" (without the
    quotation marks), and press ENTER.

 4. Select "abc." From the Edit menu, choose Glossary. Type "bookm1"
    (without the quotation marks), and choose the Define button.

 5. Return to the end of the line, then create a new paragraph.

 7. Insert the glossary entry bookm1 by typing "bookm1" (without the
    quotation marks and pressing the F3 function key.

 8. From the Insert menu, choose Bookmark. Select mark1, choose the
    Delete button, then choose the Close button.

 9. From the Edit menu, choose Glossary. Select bookm1, choose the
    Delete button, then choose the Close button.

10. Type "efg" (without the quotation marks). Move the insertion point
    to the beginning of the line, and select the word.

11. From the Edit menu, choose Glossary. Type "bookm2" (without the
    quotation marks), and choose the Define button.

12. Move the insertion point to the end of the line, and create a new
    paragraph.

13. Insert the glossary entry by typing "bookm2" (without the
    quotation marks) and pressing the F3 key.

14. From the Insert menu, choose Bookmark.

The mark1 bookmark is restored to the Bookmark dialog box.
