When you use the COMMAND+OPTION+PLUS SIGN key combination to customize your Word for the Macintosh menus, the mouse pointer changes to a bold plus sign (+). However, when you move the pointer over a dialog box, the plus sign pointer changes back to an arrow pointer. Similarly, if the pointer is in a dialog box, the pointer may not change to a plus sign, or it may change back to an arrow as soon as you move the mouse.
Even though the plus sign pointer changes back to an arrow, Word still adds the command that you clicked to a menu.
NOTE: After the plus sign pointer disappears, if you press COMMAND+OPTION+PLUS SIGN a second time, Word correctly adds the Customize Add Menu Shortcut to the bottom of the Tools menu. (You might press COMMAND+OPTION+PLUS SIGN a second time out of confusion when the plus sign pointer disappears.)
Use the Customize command on the Tools menu to add items to your Word menus.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word version 6.0 for the Macintosh. This problem was corrected in Word version 6.0.1 for the Macintosh.
The COMMAND+OPTION+MINUS SIGN key combination works correctly to remove an item from a menu, and the mouse pointer remains a bold minus sign as expected.
