Creating an "Open Apple" Character

SUMMARY

Page 415 of the "Reference to Microsoft Word" version 4.0 manual correctly states that character 16 in the Chicago font is an "open apple" symbol.

However, page 415 does not mention that an open apple symbol can also be created by formatting the solid apple (character 20) to outline style.

To create an open apple, do the following:

  1. With the cursor at the proper insertion point and the Chicago font selected, press COMMAND+OPTION+Q. The word "Code" appears in the lower-left corner of the window.

  2. Enter the number 20 and press RETURN. A solid apple appears in the text.

  3. Select the apple and choose Outline from the Format menu.

If you are using a LaserWriter font, character 240 is also a solid Apple.
