SUMMARY

You can create special and foreign characters in Microsoft Word for Windows version 2.0 using the Insert Symbol command. Each font displays its own set of characters. To change the font, select a new font from the Symbol From box in the Symbol dialog box.

Word for Windows 2.0

To create special or foreign characters in Word for Windows version 2.0, use one of the following methods:

1. From the Insert menu, choose Symbol. Select the symbol you want to 

   use, and choose the OK button.
2. Hold down the ALT key while you type zero and the ANSI decimal 
   character number on the numeric keypad (with NUM LOCK on).
3. From the Format menu, choose Character. In the Character dialog 
   box, choose the Symbol font, and choose the OK button. Type the
   symbol.

Word for Windows 1.x

To create special or foreign characters in Word for Windows version 1.0, 1.1, or 1.1a, choose one of the following methods:

1. Hold down the ALT key while you type zero and the ANSI decimal 

   number on the numeric keypad (with NUM LOCK on).
2. From the Format menu, choose Character. In the Character dialog 
   box, choose the Symbol font, and choose the OK button. Type the
   symbol.
