Default File or Help Menus Displayed Instead of Custom Menus

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 1.0, 1.1, 1.1a, 2.0, 2.0a, 2.0a-CD, 2.0b, and 2.0c

If you customize the File or Help menus in Microsoft Word for Windows, those customized menus will not be displayed unless a file is open.

When no files are open, Word defaults to the standard File and Help menus. However, when you choose the Open or New command from the File menu or when you choose buttons on the toolbar, the customized menus will be visible.
