The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, version 6.0

SYMPTOMS

Fonts in a document do not appear on the toolbar list of available fonts.

CAUSE

When you open a file that contains embedded fonts and those fonts are not installed on the computer, the fonts don't show up in the fonts list until you restart Word.

This happens on Apple Macintosh computers running System 7.0 and later. There isn't a way to add fonts to the system so that programs that are currently running can make use of those fonts.

WORKAROUND

Restart the computer and open the document again. The fonts will now appear on the list of available fonts.
