IA: HTML Document Loses Sizing Changes Made To Graphic

• Microsoft Internet Assistant for Word, versions 1.0, 1.0z
• Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 6.0a, 6.0c

SYMPTOMS

When you convert a Word document to HTML, using Internet Assistant version 1.0, height and width changes to graphics are lost.

CAUSE

When you save the document as HTML, the pictures are not saved with the file. Since HTML is an ASCII text format, it can only store a pointer to the original file. Internet Assistant 1.0 does not convert images to GIF format. This problem does not occur in Internet Assistant 2.0, which allows you to convert images to GIF format when you convert Word documents to HTML.

RESOLUTION

Use either of the following methods to work around this problem.

Method 1

Use a graphics program to makes height or width changes to your graphic.

Method 2

Save your document as a Word document and then create a link from an HTML page. Since browsers can be configured to run an application when you hyperlink to a particular file format, you can specify Word or Word Viewer as the helper application, which will run automatically when you link to the Word document.
