Internet Assistant: Can't Download URLs with Internet Adapter

Last reviewed: September 24, 1997
Article ID: Q132160
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Internet Assistant for Word, versions 1.0, 1.0z
  • Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 6.0a, 6.0c

SYMPTOMS

You cannot download URLs while connected to the Internet using the Internet Adapter.

CAUSE

The Internet Adapter, from Cyberspace Development, is not compatible with Internet Assistant. Internet Assistant requires a standard SLIP (Serial Line Internet Protocol) or PPP (Point to Point Protocol) dial-up account. The Internet Adapter is an Internet access utility that converts a standard UNIX shell account into a pseudo-SLIP account that is incompatible with Internet Assistant.

RESOLUTION

Obtain a SLIP or PPP account that provides direct access to the Internet.
