Internet Assistant: Tab-Aligned Cell Text Converts Incorrectly

SYMPTOMS

Centered, right-aligned, or decimal-aligned text within table cells does not convert to HTML with the proper alignment.

CAUSE

The text was aligned using tab stops. Word does not support converting tabs within tables to the preformatted element <PRE> represented by Word's Pre Wide style. By contrast, Word correctly converts your text if you apply center, justify, or right alignment to cell text.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Internet Assistant for Word, version 1.0. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

RESOLUTION

Use alignment instead of tab stops to format the text within the table cells. To align the text:

  1. Select the cell.
2. From the Format menu, choose Paragraph. 3. Select one of the alignment options from the Alignment list. 4. Choose OK.

MORE INFORMATION

Internet Assistant currently supports converting tables to the preformatted element <PRE>. The <PRE> tag uses a fixed-width font and preserves spacing, line breaks, and tab formatting that you use in your source HTML file, when displayed in your Internet browser.
