IWIA Starts External Viewers During URL Download

ID: Q131212

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

An external viewer application is started while you are downloading a URL. For example, if you define an image viewer or an audio player in InternetWorks Internet Assistant, when you download a file that contains an image or an audio clip, the viewer or player will start.

CAUSE

Word will start the external viewers you have defined when you load a URL that contains an image, clip, or text for which you have specified a viewer in InternetWorks Internet Assistant. This behavior is by design.

RESOLUTION

If you do not want the separate application to start, you can remove the viewer or player. The drawback to this is that you may not be able to view or play specific objects unless the appropriate helper application is installed. To remove the helper application:

1. Open InternetWorks Internet Assistant (located in the <Winword>\Internet

   subdirectory).

2. From the Options menu, choose Viewers.

3. In the Type list, select the mime type you want to change.

4. In the Viewer text box, highlight the viewer you are removing and press

   the DEL key.

5. Choose the Save button.

6. Choose the OK button.

The next time you load a URL, the separate viewer will not start.
