Linked and Embedded MSGraph Object's Appearances Differ

The information in this article applies to:

• Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 6.0
• Microsoft Windows operating system version 3.0 and 3.1

SYMPTOMS

An MSGraph 3.0x object that has been copied from a Word 6.0 for Windows document and linked to a client application will have extra white space on the left and right sides of the object. An object that has been copied from a Word 6.0 document and simply pasted into a client application will not include this extra white space.

CAUSE

When you select and copy an object from a document, Word maintains a reference to the page width as part of the selection size of the object. If you link the object to a client application, the page width is included as a way to maintain the relative location of the link in Word. If you paste the object with no link, the actual size of the object is used because updating is not necessary.

STATUS

Microsoft is researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

WORKAROUND

You can remove the white space from the linked object if the client application has a feature for cropping the picture.
