Spinning Disk Icon Appears in Find File Dialog Box

SYMPTOMS

If you choose Find File from the File menu, an icon resembling a spinning disk may appear in the top-right corner of the Find File dialog box, even if you are not actively searching the drive.

CAUSE

The icon, which resembles the CD-ROM icon used by Windows File Manager, is actually a representation of generic disk activity. The icon is more likely to appear if you select File Info from the View list after choosing the Find File command.

The disk icon will be active much longer when you are accessing remote drives, floppy disk drives, or any drive where access is slower than the internal hard drive.

When Word has finished updating the display, the icon will disappear.
