The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 6.0, 6.0a, 6.0c
  • Microsoft Word for Windows 95, version 7.0
  • Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, version 6.0

SYMPTOMS

When you insert a frame for a text box in the text layer, the frame snaps horizontally or vertically if the Snap To Grid feature is enabled for the drawing layer.

WORKAROUND

Turn off the Snap To Grid option.

In Word 6.x and 7.x, click the Drawing button on the Standard toolbar. Click the Snap To Grid button on the Drawing toolbar. Click to clear the Snap To Grid check box, and then click OK.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

MORE INFORMATION

Snap To Grid is a network of invisible lines that helps you align drawing objects on the drawing layer. If the Snap To Grid option is turned on for the drawing layer, frames inserted on the text layer will also be affected.
