WD: Errors During Macintosh Internet Assistant Setup

SYMPTOMS

You receive one of the following errors while you are trying to install Internet Assistant for Word for the Macintosh:

   There has been a problem with the installation of Internet Assistant.

   Please look for the error shown below in the Readme file for
   information on what may have gone wrong and how to fix it.

   OpenResFile failed with error: xxx

   (where xxx is -43, -35, -39, or -120)

    -or-

   PartialPathNameFromDirID Failed

    -or-

   Failed to get a resource

CAUSE

These errors occur if either of the following is true:

  • The Word Settings (6) file is missing or damaged.

        -or-
    
  • The path settings for the user templates, user options, or the Startup folder are invalid or missing. To locate these settings, click Options on the tools menu, and then click the File Locations tab.

WORKAROUND

To resolve this problem, follow these steps:

  1. Ensure that the Word Settings (6) file is located in the "System: Preferences" folder. If this file does not exist, start and then exit Word once before you install Internet Assistant.

  2. Set valid path settings for the user templates, user options, and the Startup folder. To do this, use the following steps:

        a. On the Tools menu, click options, and then click the File locations
           tab.
    

        b. Select User Templates, click Modify, and choose the folder that
           contains your templates. Typically this specifies the "Microsoft
           Word:Templates" folder. Click Open.
    

        c. Select User Options, click Modify, and then choose the "System
           Folder:Preferences" folder. Click Open.
    

        d. Select Startup, click Modify, and then choose "System
           Folder:Preferences:Word Startup Folder (6)." Click Open.
    

  3. Run Internet Assistant for Word Setup again.
