SYMPTOM
In Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, when a character that has a
greater point size than the rest of the text is placed in a paragraph,
the Auto line spacing option (located in the Paragraph dialog box)
adjusts the line spacing for that line so that it is taller than the
rest of the lines in that paragraph.
WORKAROUND
To suppress this automatic increase of line spacing, follow these steps:
- Select the paragraph for which you do not want to have the "auto
spacing" feature.
- On the Format menu, click Paragraph.
- In Word 98 Macintosh Edition, click the Indents and Spacing tab, select
Exactly under Line Spacing, and then type the point size of the spacing
desired under At.
In Word 5.0 and 6.0, under Line, select Exactly, and type the point
size of the standard font for that paragraph.
In Word 3.x and Word 4.0, in the Line box under Spacing, replace Auto
with -<pointsize>, where "<pointsize>" is the size of the standard
font for that paragraph. For example if the paragraph is formatted in
14-point type, type "-14" (without the quotation marks) in the Line
box.
- Click OK.
This procedure may cause the larger sized text to be cut off. The line
spacing or the text font size may need to be adjusted to attain the desired
appearance.
