WD: Format Position Doesn't Override MacWord Paragraph Indents

SUMMARY

In Microsoft Word, you cannot place an object exactly at the location that has been set in the Format Position dialog box if the left-hand paragraph indent for that object is right of the 0 (zero) measurement mark on the ruler.

For example, a graphic is selected and the Format Position command applied so that the graphic should be placed horizontal left, relative to the page. In Print Preview, the graphic appears far from the edge of the page. Clicking the graphic shows that the dotted box around it extends to the edge of the page; however, it includes blank space to the left of the graphic's edge. It is not possible to move the graphic closer to the edge of the page.

If a positioned object is on a line that has a left indent, the indent is also applied to that object. For example, an object with a 2-inch left indent will never move closer than 2 inches to its assigned position.

To bring the positioned object to the desired position, return to galley view, select the object, and adjust the indent to zero.

MORE INFORMATION

In addition, if new or existing text is formatted to wrap around the positioned object, the indent of that text should also be set at zero. If not, the wrapped text will be indented from the right edge of the object, the defined distance from zero.
