WD: Go Menu on Web Toolbar Does Not List File Names

Last reviewed: March 12, 1998
Article ID: Q178628
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word 97 for Windows
  • Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition

SYMPTOMS

When you click Go on the Web toolbar, links to documents that you have followed will be listed at the bottom of the Go menu. However, the link will be identified by the Title property of the file (on the File menu, click Properties, and click the Summary tab), rather than by the file name.

CAUSE

By design, Microsoft Word identifies a file opened from a hyperlink by its Title property.

WORKAROUND

If you want to see the file name on the Go menu, change the Title property of the file that you are linking to such that it is the same as the file name. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Open the document that the hyperlink navigates to.

  2. On the File menu, click Properties, and then click the Summary tab.

  3. Change the Title to the name of the document.

  4. On the File menu, click Save, and then close the document.
