SYMPTOMS

When you type or insert text containing grammatical errors into a Word document header, footer, or comment, the grammatical error is not highlighted.

CAUSE

By design, Word will not check grammar in a header, footer, or comment.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, follow these steps:

  1. Select the text you want to check.

  2. On the edit, menu click Cut.

  3. Close the header, footer, or comment.

  4. In the main body of the document, create a new paragraph.

  5. On the Edit menu click Paste.

  6. Word will now flag the errors for correction.

  7. After you have accepted or rejected any suggested corrections, select the text.

  8. On the Edit menu click Cut.

  9. Position the insertion point in the header, footer, or comment at the location where you want to place the corrected text.

  10. On the Edit menu click Paste.
